Snow Season
Youth Winter Sports League
Your child can learn and compete in multiple winter sports throughout the season.

Overview
Developing Snow Sports Athletes
The Youth Winter Sports League introduces young athletes to some of Michigan's most popular snow sports and builds the fundamental skills behind each one. Along the way, we aim to foster teamwork and inclusivity, promote safety and responsible sportsmanship, and encourage a love for being outdoors and active through the winter.

A New Sport, Every Tuesday Night
“Athletes leave every Tuesday practice with a new skill — and a team to call their own.”
Athletes are grouped by age — 4th and 5th graders in one division, 6th through 8th graders in the other — so coaching always matches where a kid actually is. Every piece of equipment is provided, registration comes with a team sweatshirt with the athlete's name on the back, and a parent or guardian sticks around for the full two hours. It's built so nobody shows up under-prepared and nobody sits on the sidelines.
Sports Your Athlete Will Learn
Learning How To Compete In Winter Sports
Every Tuesday night from 6 to 8pm, athletes work through the fundamentals of a different winter sport and put them to the test. Each week builds on the skills learned the week before — a coach walks through the instruction first, then athletes practice the specific technique, and the season wraps with a competitive triathlon that pulls together everything they've picked up along the way.

Luge
The Muskegon Luge track is one of only four in the country, and it's built for first-timers to learn the sport. At 650 feet long with four banked curves, sliders reach speeds up to 30 mph. Coaches teach the equipment, how to position on the sled, and how to steer and control it all the way down the ice.

Skating & Hockey
With over 2 acres of outdoor ice plus a quarter-mile skating trail through the woods, athletes start with the fundamentals of ice skating in their choice of hockey, recreational, or speed skates. Once they've got their footing, they pick up a stick to learn puck handling and play a game of pick-up pond hockey.

Cross-Country Skiing
Our lighted, groomed trails support both classic and skate skiing. Athletes first learn classic technique using parallel tracks set in the snow, then advance to the faster, more demanding skate-skiing style once they've shown they've got classic down.

Biathlon
Biathlon is an Olympic event pairing cross-country skiing with rifle marksmanship. Athletes ski to our controlled shooting range, where they learn fundamental safety procedures and technique for firing an air rifle, then compete in target shooting.
Winter Season Schedule
We'll attempt to stick to this schedule when possible. However, as all good snow sports athletes know, conditions will ultimately dictate which sports are possible on any given night — staff may adjust the scheduling and programming based on conditions.
