Conditions Report
Latest Update: December 30, 2024
It's too warm and no snow for winter activities, but our hiking trails are open for hike the lights until Thursday Jan 2nd. Lights are on until 10pm. After Thursday hiking on the trails will be closed until spring.
It looks like we will get conditions for building ice by the end of the week or beginning of next week. With the cold and snow in the forecast we expect to be opening soon!
FAQ's about Winter Opening
When do we open for winter?
All winter activities are made from natural snow and cold temps. First we have to have snow on the ground and temps consistently below freezing for several days.
When will the ice rink/trail open?
We need a minimum of 5" of snow on the ground to build ice. Once we have that snow we pack it into the ground and then add water to start building ice. Temps must be below 32 degrees. It will take us at least 4-5 days to build finished ice once we have these conditions.
When will the ski/snowshoe trails open?
We need at least 4" of snow on the trails to pack in a base. We need more than 4" to start grooming and setting tracks. We will open trails as soon as there's enough snow to pack a base in.
When will the luge track open?
We need at least 5" of snow to start building the track. This will still require us to truck in snow from local parking lots to top us off. It takes us two days to sculpt the banked curves with snow. Then it takes a few days to freeze the sculpted snow into ice. Our first luge session is scheduled for Jan. 3rd. We will open tickets for earlier sessions if we have the track built sooner. If we are forced to cancel a session because we don't have winter conditions we provide a full refund on all tickets purchased.
